Our Loot System:
After using DKP for the entirety of Burning Crusade, we've since adopted EPGP as our loot system of choice. For those familiar with the system, we're currently using a 12% weekly decay with time-based EP gains (based on 30 minute attendance blocks). For those
not familiar with the system, you can read more about it
here.
Burning Crusade: Our Humble Beginnings
Highborne was founded on January 27th, 2007 by several real-life friends who had, for various reasons, been playing apart on numerous servers. The release of Burning Crusade and the opening of Exodar, however, provided an ideal opportunity to start anew with a common goal: to create a guild where "serious casuals" could come together and conquer the endgame.
At its core, Highborne was composed of players with very extensive Warcraft experience--from numerous lvl60 alts to very hardcore past (T3) Naxxraamas progression--we pretty much covered it all. We were serious about continuing our past successes--albeit at a less "hardcore" pace--and we invited all those with similar goals to join us.
As far as progression was concerned, our small, casually-oriented guild ultimately went on to claim server seconds on virtually all Tier6 and later content and, for a guild that never set out to compete on that level, we were pretty pleased with ourselves. We proved that, despite not raiding 5-6 nights a week or employing the most "hardcore" of attitudes, it
was possible to be "serious about being casual" and progress through the most difficult content WoW had to offer.
Wrath of the Lich King: Life Since BC
After being forced to end our Sunwell progression early, we spent the weeks leading up to Wrath reevalutating the direction of our guild. Though we had done extremely well for ourselves with our "casual" approach, the fact remained that we
could compete on a more hardcore level--we had already proved it. With a few adjustments in attitude and a slightly more "hardcore" outlook on things, we set into Wrath with somewhat larger goals in mind.
Regrettably, however, Tier 7 proved to be more of a leveling race than anything and, because of such, Tier 7 progression became rather skewed in favor of those guilds who could dedicate "24/7" playtime towards leveling. As was the case with early Tier 4/Tier 5 content, our "founded on staying away from such extremes" roster never had a terribly realistic shot at competing early on and, unsurprisingly, Tier 7 honors went to those who simply had more time to play and who overrecruited to give themselves the edge.
We
do not take anything away from the current frontrunners of Exodar but, at the same time, we don't believe Tier 7 was a particularly good gauge of ability. Virtually every competitive guild, ours included, cleared everything within a week of starting it and, in all honesty, we're fairly certain most people would agree Tier 8 is where things really begin. Not even Sartharion 3D proved to be a terribly difficult challenge and, sure enough, all Horde frontronners, again ourselves included, achieved it within a week of each other.
What You Need to Know About Highborne
If you've made it this far and are still interested in joining our ranks, just know this: you are looking to join a guild with
years of history and experience behind it. We're not newcomers on the block--in fact, we're Exodar's oldest raid guild--and, after having just celebrated our two year anniversary, we can honestly say we're stronger than ever. No, we'll probably never again be the "casual" guild we were in BC but, nonetheless, we're still very much grounded in the tried-and-true principles we've established over the years.
In short, if you're looking for a guild that constantly pushes to better itself and which gets the job done
without resorting to unreasonable extremes to do it, Highborne may just be the guild for you. Make no doubts about it, however, we are
very serious about continuing the Highborne tradition and taking things to the next level; we expect nothing but the best from our members and, frankly, our recruitment bar is set higher than ever. If you think you have what it takes; we encourage you to give us a look.
The Highborne Standard:
Simply put, we have an understanding amongst our roster that, at all times, our Raiders are under constant evaluation. Be it avoiding flame walls on Sartharion 3 Drakes, not failing miserably on Malygos Phase 3 or just bringing the expected DPS on Patchwerk, our roster is pushed towards perfection. In the event, however, that an Applicant is able to outperform a Raider on given content, that Applicant will
not fall victim to "seniority" when it comes to raid spot priority, loot or other considerations. When progression really counts, we bring our 25 strongest Raiders for the job--period--and, through this understanding, we maintain our standards and, indeed, constantly push them to the next level.
We Are Currently Recruiting the Following Classes/Specs:
(last updated July 23rd)
- 1 Healing Priest (able to heal without dying)
- 1 Resto Druid (able to heal without dying)
- 1 Elemental Shaman (nearly perfect attendance required)
- 1 Any Spec Mage (able to demonstrate strong DPS and raid awareness)
ALL Exceptional Applicants are Welcome to Apply!
Though we are
specifically looking for a handful of classes and specs, we will give serious consideration to
any exceptional Applicant.
"Exceptional" is not simply defined by one's opinion of oneself. Essentially, if you're not damn-near finished with your gear or you haven't completed all Tier 7 content (including Sarth 3D)
many times over, you're probably not going to have very good odds of making it to our roster unless a spot specifically opens for your class/spec. It never hurts to try, though. Just be realistic about your chances. ;)
